A House Joint Resolution to make the Bible the official Tennessee state book has been filed for introduction.
The resolution gives reasons for this to happen such as families recorded vital records in family Bibles at a time when Tennessee did not keep comprehensive records of birth, marriages, etc., there are many top Bible publishers located in Nashville, and it aligns with the religious connotations reflected in state symbols and songs.
Making the Bible the official Tennessee state book has been attempted before.
The resolution is sponsored by Republican Representative Jerry Sexton of Bean Station.
