The Greene County Budget and Finance Committee has approved funding for those improvements at the Greene County Jail, in order to avoid decertification. However, the full commission has yet to take action on the request.

A transfer of funds approved by the commission, however, does free up some money for use by the jail and in some other areas. Much of the nearly $73,000 had originally been set aside for anticipated expenditures from the Lillelid trial. The pleas and subsequent sentencing in the trial, however, substancially reduced the need for that funding.

In another matter related to the Lillelids, County Commissioners this morning, by a vote of 9 in favor, 12 against, voted down a motion that the state construct a memorial at the I-81 rest stop where the Lillelid family was abducted last April.
