June 28, 1997 - Custody Testimony
Continues
Testimony resumed this morning in Knoxville in a court
hearing to decide the future of the only survivor of the Baileyton shootings. Knoxville
Chancellor Frederick McDonald is charged with appointing a guardian for two year old Peter
Lillelid. The child's parents and sister died last April after being gunned down on a
gravel road near Baileyton. The child was wounded in the eye and chest. He is currently
under care at the Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center. The child's paternal aunt of
Stockholm, Sweden, is fighting for custody of Peter, with his maternal grandmother and
aunt, who live in a Miami suburb. Six suspects in the shooting are being held in the
Greene County Detention Center and the Washington County Youth Center pending a hearing
next month on the murder charges.
