April 07, 1997 - Victims
Identified But Names Not Released
Officials have identified the victims of Sunday night's
murders of two adults and a child, and the wounding of another child, however the names
are not being released until relatives are notified. The names of the victims are expected
to be released later today, along with more information about the incident, by Greene
County Sheriff Terry Jones. Jones is also expected to release more information about
possible suspects in the crime who are believed to be from Kentucky. Officials are looking
for a tan Ford van, possibly with a scratch down the side, which was last seen in the
area. A wrecked car found at the scene has been traced to a Kentucky woman who told
investigators her son and a juvenile from Pikeville, Kentucky, had borrowed the car a few
days earlier and have not been seen since. The two adults were found shot to death Sunday
night on Payne Hollow Road near Baileyton along with two critically wounded children. One
of the children, a girl between age five and seven, died yesterday afternoon at a
Knoxville Hospital. The other child, a boy around age three years old, remains in critical
condition. He was shot in the head and in the chest.
